This survey of roughly 1,500 small businesses was conducted in October using the Alignable small business audience. They skew smaller and somewhat older, with lower average revenues than our earlier SMB study.

This study was also not as broad as the first survey. We asked about a narrower range of topics and issues. We didn't ask, for example, about general marketing, sales, customer service or software buying criteria. This survey focused mostly on AI adoption and use cases.

In addition to standard "firmographics" questions, we asked about business challenges, growth outlook, AI adoption and usage, where they learn about new technology, benefits of using AI and whether they would be interested in the idea of an AI-powered virtual business coach. We will be drilling down on some of these answers and segment the data accordingly.

One of the more significant findings is the percentage of SMBs who are using AI on a daily basis. What this indicates is that SMBs are finding considerable value and are beginning to integrate AI into their operations and routines in earnest.

Another potentially significant finding is the number of SMBs (21.4% in this survey) who are what we might call non-adopters, and who are either not interested (for multiple reasons) or believe AI tools and applications are simply not applicable to their businesses.
